When I was in New Zealand, I kept seeing Muster Zones. I was told that for emergencies, a siren would sound and people were to gather in the muster zone so that there could be an orderly evacuation. Like in many places in Canada, there are a limited number of small roads going in and out of medium sized cities. Mustering meant that people wouldn't head out on a road that was out of commission because of the disaster. Because of the terrain, NZ civil defence is largely local. Elbows Up is asking the right question: what do we do now? How do we make Canada strong and self-sufficient in a world rapidly shifting under our feet? That question is hard to answer because it requires moving beyond reactive politics and into systemic change—exactly the kind of challenge the Perfect Political Platform was designed to address.
It’s not about left or right. It’s about reclaiming democracy by making the government functionally accountable to the people, interrogating the systems that have let corruption and complacency fester, and preparing for the world as it is rather than the world we wish still existed. That’s a big conversation, and Elbows Up seems to be making space for exactly that kind of thinking—however uncomfortable or unconventional it might feel at first.
Very inspiring. I am fully on board to do my part in any way I can. I'm definitely interested in learning more. What can I do to help? Please keep it going. I can't wait to hear more. Learning basic first aid and CPR sounds like a good starting point. How do I prepare to help my family and my fellow Canadian? Thanks Jordan and Laura. I think this podcast can be super helpful for everyone.
Ps. The email link on your Spotify podcast description is incorrect. I think hello just has an extra l.

Great show and inspiring. Looking forward to hearing more.
I’d like to learn more about this. Could you include some links in the show notes?
Great suggestion! We'll try to do that as we go. For now, Peter's piece on civil defence that we discussed is here: https://thetyee.ca/Opinion/2025/03/05/Canada-Needs-New-Civil-Defence-Corps/
